FHS Summer Enrichment

 FHS Summer Enrichment

FHS students had the opportunity to explore Nevada watersheds with Teach Tricia Dutcher.  Dutcher's previous career involved leading field trips on public lands.

The FHS summer enrichment course visited the Mason Valley Hatchery in the Walker River watershed and discussed native and managed species.

They visited Buckland Station and discussed how technology has changed our lives and the impacts on biodiversity that came with settlement in the region.

The class learned about watersheds and walked to the bottom of the Carson River to discuss water management and policies.

In addition, they also went to Oxbow Nature Study Area on the Truckee River to explore riparian habitats and wildlife and compare the different watersheds. They even got to cool off in the river and talk about animal adaptations.

On their way back, they stopped at the McCarran Ranch river restoration project to talk about management decisions that affect biodiversity.

Dutcher offered this program twice this summer and some students loved it so much that they took part in the second go around!
