LCSD Recognition for 2019-2020 Implementation of MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports)

Lyon County has three schools that received recognition for their 2019-2020 implementation of MTSS.  The recognition ceremony was held virtually in late February as part of the NWPBIS Conference. Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based three-tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day. PBIS creates schools where all students succeed. The Smith Valley FFA chapter nominated Principal Duane Mattice for the Star Administrator Award. The Nevada FFA Association recognized Mr. Mattice and Smith Valley FFA at the 92nd Annual Nevada FFA Convention! Principal Duane Mattice pardons Tom T. Nevada DECA State Career Development Conference

Dayton High School DECA chapter continues success at State Conference.  DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe with around 225,000 members. Skyler Hester took first place in Franchise Business Plan and Automotive Services Marketing Individual Series events. Emma Cowee also took third place in Franchise Business Plan and seventh place in Quick Serve Restaurant Management Individual Series events. Up next, Skyler Hester will be representing Nevada in the Franchise Business Plan event at DECA’s Virtual International Career Development Conference April 19th through May 6th, which is commonly attended by over 20,000 participants from around the world. Fernley FFA at UC Davis Livestock Judging Contest

Congratulations to the Fernley FFA Livestock Judging Team; Aurora Parsons, Natasha Truelock, George Rosenlund, Paisley Rosenlund, Lucas Jurich, Kennith Nystrom, & Illiana Banks.   The team did very well and came home with various accolades from the UC Davis Virtual Livestock Judging Competition.  The Fernley team faced some very tough competition in California.

Have a wonderful Reading Week, LCSD! Nevada Reading Week 2021 : For more than thirty years Nevada Reading Week has been celebrated across the entire state - from small rural communities to larger urban areas. Activities often include book studies, author studies, literary readings by renowned authors, book fairs, and family literacy events. The stewards of Nevada Reading Week include PK-12 school librarians, educators, the Nevada Department of Education, the Nevada State Library, public libraries, community leaders, students and their families. Each school year begins with the selection of a specific theme that often reflects the spirit of the times. Once the theme is announced, it serves as a vehicle for leading a year-long campaign that culminates in the final celebration during the first week of March. Valentine's Bridge Challenge!

Ms. Drennan's first grade distance students did a group STEM project for their Valentine’s Day Party. Students learned about what civil engineers do, different types for bridges and what shapes make bridges strong. Parents were advised to pick up supplies from the main office during the week or grab supplies before the party!  Ms. Drennan said it was very successful and students loved it.

Escape Room meets Clue!

Mrs. Childers biology class completed a "Mystery Classroom." It is a combination of an Escape Room and the board game Clue. It was a review game for their exam. They had to answer questions in order to unlock clues to solve the mystery of the stolen painting. These students completed the game and solved the mystery.
