COVID Connection Spotlight - LCSD High Schools Participate in Be the Light!

Image
On Friday, April 17, 2020, high schools in Nevada and across the nation participated in the “Be the Light and Never Ever Give Up on Your Dreams” campaign.  The event called for high schools to turn on their football/sports field lights at 8:20PM (2020 military time) for 20 minutes in support of the graduating class of 2020, spring activities, sports athletes, coaches, staff, families, those fighting the invisible enemy, and in Dayton, the tribute was also in remembrance of Gabe Torres, former DHS Girls Basketball Coach. During the event, cars were asked to drive by the field of lights and honk, and everyone was asked to stay in their car in order to adhere to social distancing guidelines.  There was an incredible outpouring of support for the event, and for many, provided that glimmer of hope that has been missing from the past few weeks.  As of April 1, 2020, Nevada Governor Sisolak ordered that schools remain closed until at least April 30, 2020 and on April 21, 2020 the

COVID Connection Spotlight: On the bright side...

This situation is hard.  Social distancing is hard.  Distance learning is new.  The future is unclear.  Yet, in spite of the chaos and uncertainty, we are able to find a break in the clouds.  On April 13 and 15, the week students “returned” from the regularly scheduled spring break, 11 school sites were designated to hand out meals to any child under 18.  In those two days alone, 16,256 meals were distributed.  This meant there were 16,256 times when a child had a guaranteed meal.  16,256 times when a caregiver or parent did not have to worry about what their child or children were going to eat.  16,256 times where, even for a moment, children were reminded that LCSD is and will continue to be here for them.  Teachers and all of our staff are doing an incredible job and we could not be more proud of the way in which they are powering through and finding new and unique ways to stay connected with their students.  LCSD looks forward to finding ways to continue to support students, staff

COVID Connection Spotlight - Goodie Bags for FES 3rd Grade Students!

Image
The week before spring break Teacher Kelly Mull delivered goodie bags to each of her 3rd grade students in Fernley.  The students knew when she was coming by and were able to leave her sweet notes and wave to her through the windows and screen doors. Kelly says, "It was so great to see them all!"  We're sure the students loved it too. LCSD has the most wonderful educators!
