Nevada State Superintendent of Public Instruction visits LCSD!

Superintendent Jhone Ebert visits with LCSD students

On Monday, January 6, as teachers and staff welcomed students back to class, Lyon County School District (LCSD) also welcomed Nevada State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jhone Ebert and Deputy State Superintendent Jonathan Moore for a day-long listening tour in the District.  The two representatives were able to visit with LCSD leadership, teachers, staff, students and our community.  The purpose of the visit was for these representatives to gain a better understanding of every school district in the state of Nevada.

The day began with a discussion involving the LCSD Leadership Cabinet, the State Superintendent and the State Deputy Superintendent - LCSD's major accomplishments and challenges were shared, celebrated and discussed.  Following, the visitors were able to visit classrooms in Silver Springs.  Elementary, middle and high school students shared their love for their school, some ideas for improvement on the curriculum they are engaged in and a majority of them shared a desire to become educators themselves one day.

Classroom visits continued throughout the day.  For luunch, Dayton High School culinary program prepared a meal for the visitors in a tremendous opportunity to showcase the wonderful program and hard work of the student chefs.  Performances from the Yerington Pauite Tribe high school dancers, followed by Fernley High School drama club and the Silver Stage Middle School GREEN Team allowed LCSD to showcase themselves and what being a student in Lyon County is all about.

The day concluded with a principal, staff/teacher and community roundtable.  LCSD is grateful for the time spent listening and learning with the tremendous staff and students that this District is fortunate enough to have!
