Lyon County School District Semi-Annual Econ Summit!

International Economic Summit Program

The International Economic Summit™ is a hands-on, activity-based learning program for high school students that culminates in a school district student competition. Students have the opportunity to compete and learn the significance of globalization, international economics and what it takes to make highly interdependent nations competitive in today’s dynamic economic environment.

Each summit is a fun and challenging event where student teams represent a country as economic advisors with the goal to raise the standard of living in their country. Teams research their country and propose a solution to a global problem. At the summit, students both compete and work together to complete tasks like building trade alliances, securing resources through importing and exporting, investing in long term development projects and testing their knowledge of geography, economics, and current events.

Economics, finance, technology, creativity, teamwork, problem solving, writing, speaking, debate and design—it’s all in the International Economic Summit! The Summit has gained national recognition as an effective educational program for teaching core, transferable career skills in economics, finance, and even technology.

The Econ Summit began at Dayton High School years ago with Teacher and now Assistant Principal Damon Etter.  Teacher Stephanie Fitch continued the tradition and helped to expand to the three most recent LCSD International Econ Summits, which hosted hundreds of students from high schools in the LCSD.  Next semester, the Summit will expand even further to host student from Storey County and has the potential to be hosted at the University level.
