State of Nevada 2018 Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest

Educators,

Thank you for your participation last year in making the poster contest a success. Last year’s winners were from Reno, Carson City and Pahrump and their artwork was featured on billboards Statewide. 
The 2018 theme for Fire Prevention Week will be released on June 11, 2018 at http://www.nfpa.org/public-education/campaigns/fire-prevention-week  and we are looking forward to participation from the students throughout the state again.

Contest Rules
Applicants:
a.       Elementary Level; 5th and 6th grades
b.      Middle School
c.       High School

2.      Artwork must reflect the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) 2018 national fire prevention week.  Information on this year’s theme will be found on NFPA’s website :  http://www.nfpa.org/public-education/campaigns/fire-prevention-week

3.      Theme must be depicted visually and can be created using media such as acrylics, watercolor, pencils, charcoal, magic markers, crayons, and pastels. Digitally produced images, collages, cut-outs, and stamping will not be eligible for consideration.

4.      The finished poster must measure 8 ½ x 14 inches.

5.      The poster must be submitted with a description of the poster and a brief biography of the artist, either written legibly or typed.

6.      Posters must be submitted to your local fire department by Sept. 7, 2018. Contact your local department for more information.
Winners:
Will be selected from each of the three grade school categories and their posters placed on billboards in the Elko, Reno/Sparks, Carson City and Las Vegas areas.   Each winner will receive a plaque from the Nevada State Fire Marshal and the Fire Prevention Association of Nevada (FPAN), and recognition from the National Fire Protection Association.
Selecting the winners:
At the local/City/County level
-          The county winner will be selected by the respective fire departments fire prevention bureau’s within that county, FPAN and or the local Fire Chief.  (In Clark County FPAN and their regional representatives will be the receiving entity for the poster entries from the Schools and selecting those to move on to the next level). The Fire Prevention Bureaus of the agencies are responsible for disseminating contest opportunity, collecting entries from the respective schools within their jurisdictions, judging entries from the respective schools and submitting the top 2 entries to the State Fire Marshal by September 14, 2018 by 5:00 p.m.

At the state level
-          The Nevada State Fire Marshal and representatives from the BOFS will facilitate tier 2 judging to select the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. This will be done on September 18, 2018. 
  
Winning Poster
-          The winning poster (originals and copies) becomes the property of the Nevada State Fire Marshal, and will be displayed at the Carson City State Fire Marshal’s Office and community outreach events as determined by the same entities along with being posted on billboards.
-          The winning poster may be used in publications, exhibits, and displays, and on websites, as determined by the Nevada State Fire Marshal.
-          Poster winner’s artwork will be submitted to local print media in their area and may be published.
