Dayton Township Kiwanis Distinguished Awards 2018
Dayton Township Kiwanis
Distinguished Service Awards 2018
Yesterday evening in Reno nearly 100 representatives from the 13 Kiwanis clubs from the
Reno, Carson City and Lake Tahoe area were treated to a visit from our
California-Nevada-Hawaii district Governor, Joni Ackerman.
We had a wonderful educational and social evening, and many awards were presented.
Dayton Township Kiwanis was honored to present two to very deserving individuals.
Caitlin Saras
Caitlin Saras is an English teacher at Dayton High School. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Education. If that wasn’t enough to keep anyone busy full time, she also eagerly accepted the responsibility of becoming our Key Club Faculty Advisor.
Under Caitlin’s leadership and commitment to the youth of our community, her efforts over the last 8 months have guided the Dayton High School Key Club to become the largest and most active in Division 45, currently with 30 members. The members have an average GPA of 3.4 and 40 percent are in or starting the Jump Start College program. So far this school year, the Key Club has contributed over 300 hours of community service within the Dayton community.
Dayton Township Kiwanis recognizes Caitlin as very deserving of receiving
a Distinguished Service Award this year for her dedication and service to Dayton High,
our community, Kiwanis and the members of the DHS Key Club.
We pray that she will continue in this endeavor for many years to come.
Our Key Club is honored to now be the home club of the
2018-2019 Division 45 Key Club Lt. Governor, Alexandra Edmondson,
who will be presenting the Distinguished Service Award to Caitlin.
John Stevens
John Stevens has been a community leader in Dayton for many years.
He has been a member of the Lyon County School Board since 2008, has coached Little League and the Dayton High School baseball team and served as President of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce for several terms. He now devotes most of his energies towards Kiwanis.
Last October, John accepted the responsibilities of President Elect of Dayton Township Kiwanis and he has become the Kiwanis advisor, coordinator and facilitator for our
re-chartered Key Club at Dayton High School.
Thank you, John, for finding and recruiting Caitlin as our Faculty Advisor.
With the strong support of the Lyon County school administration and School Board,
one of John's goals is to charter Key Clubs at the other 4 High Schools in Lyon county as well as at Virginia City High School in Storey County.
John is a key asset to Kiwanis and the youth of our community.
In the unanimous opinion of Dayton Township Kiwanis, John is extremely deserving of receiving the Distinguished Service Award for 2018. Dayton Township Kiwanis will have a bright future under his leadership next year and the youth of our area will be the real beneficiaries.
Presenting the Distinguished Service Award to John Stevens is Naina Duarte,
2018-2019 President of the Dayton High School Key Club.
