Smith Valley FFA Turkey Business

Smith Valley Future Farmers of America (FFA) has many student-run businesses and projects throughout the year that support their program and showcase their expertise.  Most recently, the Turkey Business held its annual turkey processing event where the students processed the turkeys they raised from free range roamers to packaged, ready for the oven/deep frier poultry.  The FFA students handle every aspect of the processing from death to scalding, plucking, evisceration, cleaning and packaging.  These students are true professionals and teachers of the trade as this year elementary students were able to come watch and learn from their peers.  The FFA chapter is led by teacher and advisor Charmi Mitchell and the Turkey Business is led by student Megan Feuerhelm.   Megan's business made over $2,300 with 34 birds, one of which was pardoned by Principal Duane Mattice.  She receives 60% of profits with the rest going to the Smith Valley FFA chapter.
