YES Teachers Awarded Lemelson STEM Master's Grant
Lynn Jeka, Michelle Petersen, Lissa Kellogg and Tori Palmer of Yerington Elementary School were all awarded the Lemelson STEM Master's Grant to complete a Master’s degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in STEM education at the University of Nevada, Reno.
The grant is made possible by Mrs. Dorothy Lemelson who is offering 25 teachers in the Washoe County and Lyon County School Districts the opportunity to pursue the STEM Master's degree at UNR. Her gift will cover the cost of tuition for the duration of the program and is designed for the practicing K-8 teacher to develop specialized knowledge in Math, Science, Technology and Engineering. Courses are created to add content and pedagogical knowledge based in the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics and the Next Generation Science Standards. This grants hopes to provide teachers with cutting-edge research, tools and content to improve instruction and to develop capacity to improve overall learning for K-8 students.
Congratulations to our YES teachers!
