High School Academic Team Division Competition!

Let's wish our Dayton High School and Fernley High School Academic Teams good luck today as they will be competing in Divisions today!   The competition will be held at FHS and will also include Pershing County and Truckee High Schools.

LCSD Basketball in Playoffs!

3A Boys Basketball: Fernley and Dayton teams made it to the 3A Northern Region playoffs as the 5th and 6th seeded, respectively.  Both teams lost yesterday in the quarterfinals to South Tahoe and Lowry, respectively. 3A Girls Basketball: Fernley girls basketball ended their league play in 1st place with an undefeated season (22-2 overall, 18-0 league).  They play today in the 3A Northern Semifinal. 2A Boys Basketball: Yerington boys entered the 2A Northern Region playoffs as the #4 seed.  They defeated White Pine yesterday in the region's quarterfinal and are playing in the semifinals today. 2A Girls Basketball: Yerington and Silver Stage girls basketball entered the 2 Northern Region playoffs yesterday as the #3 and #6 seeds, respectively.  They played in a head-to-head match.  Yerington advanced to the semifinals and are playing again today. 1A Boys Basketball: The Smith Valley boys team played in the 2A Northern quarterfinal yesterday

LCSD 1A, 2A, 3A Wrestler Champions and State Finishers!

LCSD Poetry Out Loud

LCSD Poetry Out Loud Yerington, NV, February 18, 2020 – Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that offers a dynamic recitation competition to high schools across the country. Poetry Out Loud believes their program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence and learn about literary history and contemporary life.   Since 2005, Poetry Out Loud has grown to reach more than 3.8 million students and 60,000 teachers from 16,000 schools in every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.   In Lyon County School District (LCSD), Yerington High School has been instrumental in bringing this program to students, which is shown by its success year after year. Goodie Bags for Seniors!

Last week, Angela Sciarani's, 1st grade class in Yerington made and stuffed 60 goodie bags for the senior citizen center.  The bags were delivered to the homebound seniors. The kids had a lot of fun and the senior center was so appreciative.

Undefeated FHS girls basketball!

Last night during the UNR vs UNLV women's basketball game, Fernley High School (FHS) Girls Basketball was presented with the game ball.  The FHS girls basketball team has won the League Title and is seeking a 3A Nevada State Title.  18-0 League Record 22-2 Overall The team has secured a bye in the first round of the 3A Northern Region tournament and will face their next opponent on Friday, February 21 at Churchill County High School in the 3A Northern Region semifinal with the opponent and time still to be determined. Congratulations on a record season!

Lyon County School District - Grow Your Own Round 2!

For the second time this year, a handful of classified employees applied to and were chosen for the second cohort of a Grow Your Own (GYO) initiative that allows Lyon County School District (LCSD) to financially support classified employees who hope to become teachers. 2020 National Scripps Spelling Bee – LCSD Winners

2020 National Scripps Spelling Bee – LCSD Winners Lyon County, NV, February 11, 2020 – Kwashiorkor, affenpinscher, hsaing-waing, whippoorwill – these are only a few of the many challenging words participants in the 2020 Scripps National Spelling Bee could potentially be presented with and have to spell correctly in order to advance their hopes of becoming the 2020 National Champion.   The Scripps National Spelling Bee has a variety of levels – The Nevada state spelling bee will be held on March 21, 2020 in Las Vegas where Lyon County School District (LCSD) will have four student competitors.   The 2020 Scripps National Spelling Bee will occur on May 24-29, 2020. The path to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, however, begins in your child’s classroom.   For grades 5th through 8th, three spellers from each grade are selected from each school to participate in the LCSD spelling bee.   This year’s LCSD spelling bee was held at Yerington Intermediate School on Janu
